From the Mouths of Babes

Two siblings (who both come to tutoring on separate days) were talking to their visiting Grandparents. Their mom emailed me part of their conversation.

First grader: “We go to this thing called Morgan’s and we love it. Tomorrow my brother gets to go, but I got to go today.”

Fourth grader: “Oh! Morgan’s is so fun. I am joining online tomorrow but I love going both ways [online and in person].”

Morgan has been tutoring our daughter for several years now, and we couldn’t be happier with how much she has grown as a reader, writer, and learner. In working with Morgan, she built the tools and the confidence she needed to improve her reading fluency, comprehension, and writing skills. Morgan truly understood how to connect and engage with her by appealing to her natural curiosity and sense of humor. In sharing her own experiences with learning differences, Morgan made her feel validated and showed her that she too could be successful in school. Such a huge win!

“We feel so grateful that Emilia has gotten to work with you this year. She’s grown so much, and what I love most is that you made it fun and nurtured her curiosity about language. That’s such a gift. Thank you.”

“It has been so awesome to work with Morgan. She turned the hard, tearful task of writing into a joyful experience for my child, and I'm so grateful to her for that.”

"Our daughter is making such great strides.  It is such a joy to see her putting together different “puzzle pieces” and figuring it out.  Or maybe I should say, she is “seeing” the base words and it's like you can see her making the full word in her head after that.  It’s so cool. We are so thankful for you!"

I’m so glad you decided to take this path with my kid. They have learned so much from you and Gina and it has been really valuable for them to see you learning along with them. You have given them so much confidence in school and in life in general. Their struggles with anxiety and depression have almost disappeared. You should’ve seen them on our recent college campus tour, they were actually able to imagine themself as a college student! Whatever path they take in life, I know they will now be successful. They love words! Thank you!

“Sierra, our ten-year-old daughter, is a dyslexic thinker, and it is not an exaggeration to say that Morgan has changed Sierra’s life. Morgan started tutoring Sierra the summer before Sierra’s 3rd-grade year. At that time Sierra was reading and writing at a kindergarten level, and her third-grade teacher was so concerned that he told us he was not certain he would be able to teach her. After working twice a week with Morgan for a year, Sierra finished her third-grade year confidently reading and writing at her grade level. Sierra has continued to tutor with Morgan the last two years and as fifth-grader, she continues to read and write at grade level as well as excel at school.

We are grateful for Morgan and the academic growth that she has helped Sierra to achieve. Morgan shows a genuine interest in Sierra, which has enabled her to develop a strong relationship based on mutual trust. Our daughter looks forward to going over to Morgans for tutoring and has expressed appreciation for the tools Morgan has given her to support her academic success.

Morgan’s possesses an innate ability to work with Sierra in a respectful way that meets her specific needs while motivating her to rise above her unique challenges. It has been wonderful to witness Morgan’s ability to assess, understand, and support Sierra’s specific needs. Morgan gives Sierra the tools she needs to overcome her unique challenges. She helps Sierra recognize her strengths as a dyslexic thinker and how those strengths can help her navigate her learning. We are grateful for all that Morgan has helped Sierra achieve. Most of all, we treasure the love of learning that Morgan nurtures in Sierra because it is through this love that Sierra is able to identify as smart, capable, and limitless in her ability to learn and grow.”

“My son got his report card today and I had to call the teacher and make sure it was accurate.  It was the best report card he’s ever had.  He is no longer behind in any subject including writing.  He’s actually ahead of lots of kiddos in his class.  Thank you so much for your help!  He is very proud of himself.”
